SERIES NAME: WE ARE THE CHURCH
BOTTOM LINE: BEING THE CHURCH IS BETTER THAN DOING CHURCH
We can be so concerned about DOING church that we forget what it means or looks like to BE the church. We are called to BE the church not to DO church.
When we turn the church into something we do we can easily find ourselves doing things that hinder us and others to have a better encounter with Jesus. The church becomes a hindrance to God’s kingdom when the church becomes more about DOING than BEING.
The church isn’t a click or a group of common-minded people. The church isn’t a performance or a charitable organization. The church isn’t for perfect people or people who have it all together in life. The church isn’t for people who have no issues in life.
The church is us doing life together for the sake of the gospel. The church is in our willingness to get in the mess of each other’s lives so that together we can experience God’s love and power. The church is in our willingness to come to Jesus within our struggles, in our celebrations, in our losses, and in our wins. We are the church and we are called to be the church because through the church Jesus works in us, for us, and through us.
