STRENGTH FOR THE WEEK
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin – 1 John 1:7
Through Jesus Christ believers have a fellowship with one another and this fellowship has its own demands. One of the demands of this fellowship is that as believers we need to be looking out and caring for each other especially when it comes to dealing with sin. As believers we have the responsibility of looking out for our fellow believers and we also have the privilege of being looked after by other believers.
The Christian walk was not meant to be lived in isolation but in community. All growth happens in community, rather than in isolation. For a tree to grow it needs nutrients from the soil, as well as water and sunlight. This means that the growth of a tree happens in communion with the sun, water and good ground. Nothing grows in isolation.
Similarly, for a believer to grow he needs the help of other believers. You as a believer have the responsibility to care for those that are struggling with sin. However, as you are helping others you have to do humbly and not with pride or a judgemental attitude. You can only help others when you remember that you are as broken as them. No one is perfect, and just because your sin is different from others does not mean that you should be proud. In humbleness help others with an aim of pointing them back to Jesus for He is your hope and their hope.
Finally, remember that even though all people, including you, break God’s heart and His mercy is sufficient restore us all. We have all broken God’s heart and the evidence of how much we have broken God’s heart is on the cross. On the cross God’s heart was so broken by sin that he lost his own life so we can be rescued from it. Sin kills but Jesus saves and through him alone we have life in abundance.
