STRENGTH FOR THE WEEK
Day and night they never stop saying:
‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’
who was, and is, and is to come.”
Revelation 4:8
There is a temptation that we fight with on a daily basis to build a name for ourselves. We feel good when people applaud us for our accomplishments. We want to look back and point at our struggles and efforts and confidently say we have made a name for ourselves. When we choose this route we miss out on what life is all about. It is a lonely road of self-centeredness and gives false hope for our prize will be a name that will soon be forgotten. But there is a name above all names and His accomplishments will be remembered for all eternity.
Jesus has made a name for himself and it is his name that we value. When we choose to build a reputation,we avoid cultivating our relationship with the lord which may lead to pride having a stronger grip on us and this will be our downfall. What will we gain if we prove to people who we are in this life. Our identity as a believers come from a relationship not reputation.
We are not called to prove to people who we are or what we are able to do or what we have accomplished but to carry the message of hope that others can be in a relationship with our Lord by believing in what he accomplished on the cross of Calvary. In this life what matters is that we are known by the Lord and the blood bought access into God’s family. Let us be known for prizing our relationship with Christ above all else.
