SHAME TO HONOR

What if?

What if you got everything you wanted in life? What if you had every good thing? Would that really be a good thing or a bad thing? Let me turn it around a bit. What if your parents gave you everything you wanted? Or if you are a parent, what if you gave your kids everything you think is good in the world? Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Most of you would probably say that is a bad thing.

It is a bad thing because not all good things are good for us all the time.

Some good things are either not good for us because of the season we are in, our ability to handle the things that come our way or because of the type of person we are; some things will never be good for us. When a parent doesn’t give a child everything the child wants, but gives them what they deem good, we actually see that parent as a responsible parent, not as mean.

The reality is that not every good thing out there will be given to us by God right now for this would be irresponsible of God.

Does God keep good things from us?

Every single story you can think of that involves shame started with some sort of belief in a lie. If you look back to a time you felt embarrassed (either in a small way or in a big way); the reality is that before the embarassement was experienced you were lost already in a lie. You had believed in something that was not true.

One of the biggest lies from the devil that leads to shame is the belief that God keeps good things from us.

The road that leads to shame begins when you start to think that God keeps good things from you Share on X

Adam and Eve were tempted by the devil in the garden. They believed that God was keeping something good from them. It was out of this lie that they started to wander around looking for that good thing they thought God was keeping from them but their attempts resulted in shame.

When you begin to think that “there’s something extra God is keeping from me”, you have to know that you are on the road to shame. When you begin to think that God doesn’t want you to have fun or have a great time, you are more likely on the road to shame. When you begin to think that God is keeping something good from you. You will disobey and start on the path that leads to shame.

Remember the road that leads to shame begins when you begin to think that God keeps good things from you. The shame comes in because it becomes quickly clear that God has given you what you needed already for the season you are in.

What do you do?

The best way to counterattack this lie is by believing what is true. What is true is that all the good things we have come from God and they are perfect for the seasons we are in. James says “whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.” James 1:17

Therefore, we must stop believing lies and start to believe what is true. What is true is that you have good gifts from God and you should praise him for it. What is true is that you have a gift of family from God, a gift of a job, a gift of education, a gift of love, a gift of relationships, a gift of food, a gift of career, a gift of a home etc.

When you stop thinking that God keeps good things from you, you will start to notice the good things God has already blessed you with.

God has not given you ALL the good things there is in the world, but ALL he has given you is good.

God has not given you ALL the good things there is in the world, but ALL he has given you is good. Share on X

What God has provided for you is enough. You just have to praise him.
